White screen of death on Joomla

If you get the white screen of death when trying to display private streaming video, it is almost certain that you lack the toolkit OpenSSL on your server or it might not be enabled.

The OpenSSL toolkit implements the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL v2/v3) and Transport Layer Security (TLS v1) protocols as well as a full-strength general purpose cryptography library. This toolkit contains functionality that is used to create the expiring URLs for CloudFront streaming distributions.

When the function cannot be found, the cms does not know what to do and simply displays the dreaded white page of death without any further notice.
If this happens to you, contact your hosting provider and ask him to enable OpenSSL on the server.  The toolkit is platform independent, so any operating system can run it. Normally, it is default installed, so if everything works fine, you do not need to worry about it.

Local computers often lack the toolkit and as a result, testing on local computers goes wrong. We advice either to install it or work from an online server.

There is a WordPress version too!

Due to numerous requests, we decided to create a Wordpress version of S3Media Stream as well.  Check it out at www.wp21century.com
Since WordPress is fundamentally different from Joomla, this 'plugin' has its own approach, but there is no coding involved, just like the Joomla!- version.
